ENDOCRINOLOGIST
Dr Vijay Panicker is an Endocrinologist; a doctor who specialises in Hormone disorders including Diabetes Mellitus, Thyroid, Pituitary disease as well as Bone disorders such as osteoporosis. A local UWA graduate he completed his specialty training both in Perth and in the United Kingdom.
Vijay has 15 years clinical experience and expertly manages all aspects of endocrinology and diabetes. He has a special interest with additional subspecialty training in thyroid disease, including thyroid cancer. He is the former Head of the Endocrinology Department at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) where he continues to be consulted in the management of the most complex clinical cases.
Acknowledging the vital role that research plays in improving clinical outcomes for patients, Vijay completed a PhD in the UK and continues to do research in the genetics of thyroid disease and thyroid hormone replacement through SCGH and UWA. He also teaches medical students, junior doctors and endocrinology trainees in endocrinology and medicine to equip the doctors of the future with the skills to manage these increasingly common and important conditions.
What is Endocrinology?
An endocrinologist is a specialist doctor who diagnoses and treats hormone imbalances and other problems with your body’s endocrine glands. Endocrine glands include the thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas, ovaries or testicles, hypothalamus, pituitary, and adrenal glands. Endocrine disorders are often complex, affecting many body systems.
